Help For Panic Attacks

Symptoms of Panic Attacks

Symptoms of anxiety attacks can be any or all of the following:

• Dizzy spells
• Tightness in throat and chest accompanied by shortness of breath
• Racing heart
• Tingling sensations in the feet and hands and
• Negative thoughts.

Although these don’t sound too dramatic they can be quite worrying for the person with the symptoms if they are undiagnosed. This fear can actually exacerbate the problem.

Symptoms of panic or anxiety attacks that are considered to be major can include those above plus:

• Obsessive worrying and unwanted thoughts and
• Overwhelming fear that something awful is about to occur.

These last two symptoms can be almost unbearable and in some cases can lead to catastrophic results such as suicide in the most extreme cases unless treated.

Sometimes the symptoms of panic attacks are mistaken for heart attack symptoms but generally the dizziness, racing heart and negative thoughts differentiate a panic or anxiety attack from a heart attack. However, if you are uncertain, it is always best to seek advice from your health care professional.

What Causes Panic Attacks

I guess before we go too far in to what causes panic attacks it would be useful to know how to stop a them. If you are experiencing a panic attack, the most important thing is to relax and try to get your mind off what is causing the attack. I know this sounds simplistic but in mild cases it can be all that is needed. To prevent a panic or anxiety attack is not quite so simple but one way is to train your mind not think of the problem ie not to think of what caused attack. This can take time and in the cases of severe panic attacks may require professional help.

There are many other ways and I will shortly add articles with tips to prevent panic attacks but the aim of this article is primarily to give you some more general introductory information.

There are many causes of panic attacks and, again, I will go into more depth in other articles shortly, but for this article I will outline some briefly.

• The continual worrying about something (e.g. money, safety etc) can, over a period of time, be the root cause of panic attacks. It’s a bit like a cancer that is continually eating away at the mind.
• Adults are not alone in suffering from anxiety attacks, children can too and the problem can very often stem from childhood issues. For example growing up in a violent household or not being loved as a child can lead to perceptions of these being terrible experiences. This can play on the mind for years with the result culminating in panic attacks in certain situations.
• Once you experience a panic or anxiety attack, the fear of it reoccurring and of its symptoms can in itself be enough to trigger the mental processes to cause further attacks. In essence you start to fear, fear itself.

Here is a great article I found on treating anxiety disorder, the symptoms of panic attacks and the causes.

A panic attack can easily turn into a terrifying medical phenomenon. Imagine that you are simply walking around your home when suddenly you are embraced by a terrible state of fear. Ranging in seriousness to a simple shortness of breath to a much more traumatic feeling that you are actually dying, anxiety covers a wide variety of symptoms that are absolutely horrifying if you ever experience them. Most incidents can last from anywhere between a few minutes to about a half hour, making them unbearably random, as just when you think it should be over, it may keep continuing. Because so many people suffer from panic attacks each and every year, it is important to know what the symptoms are, how to avoid them and what methods the medical professionals of our world use to  treat panic disorders  even if you do not suffer from this malady.
treatment for depression and anxiety
Panic attacks can actually come in all shapes and sizes and can include a wide range of symptoms that you should be on the lookout for. While the amount and scope of a panic attacks symptoms can range tremendously, there are a few signs that you can easily use to help you determine if you are actually experiencing a panic attack. The most common symptoms include a rapid heart rate, accelerated breathing, sweating or chills, trembling and dizziness. Oftentimes, these symptoms can be accompanied by other, more severe signs like a tightness in your chest, trouble swallowing and a tight, clenching feeling in your throat as if you are about to die.

Unfortunately, nobody is really sure as of yet about what causes these incidents in some people. Because these attacks are so incredibly random and can simply occur out of the blue, there is really no way to pinpoint a particular cause. Although there has been some information leading people to believe that panic attacks are hereditary, many scientists and doctors do agree that panic attacks are related to overactive chemical responses in your body and can be directly associated with the amount of stress that you feel on a daily basis. A good way to avoid these attacks may be to try and avoid as much stress as possible.

Medication seems to be one of the best ways to  treat panic attacks. If your attacks worsen or occur more frequently, it may not be a bad idea to pay your local doctor a visit. Many doctors will proscribe you with an anti depressant style drug to help you alleviate your feelings of stress. Also, you may be required to take an anti-stress medication as well if you feel that your panic attacks are related to high levels of stress. For people who experience frequent or severe panic attacks, regular meetings with a psychiatrist may be necessary.

If you are one of the many panic disorder sufferers in the world, you are probably wondering what you can do to ease your symptoms. Having a panic attack can be extremely devastating and debilitating, not to mention embarrassing. Most panic attack sufferers will be able to identify the symptoms leading up to a panic attack. The trick is to be able to prevent yourself from feeling these symptoms in the first place. But what can you do?
how to overcome panic attacks
There have been numerous studies correlating to high incidences of stress and panic attacks.

When you are stressed out about certain things, your body produces adrenalin, which can also trigger a panic attack. It’s obvious that if you are highly strung you are going to be more likely to have a  panic attack , so the secret to eliminating your panic symptoms is to reduce your stress. The good question is, how do you do this in the stresses of modern day society?

There are a range of factors influencing the levels of stress in our bodies. Some common ones are financial worries, relationship problems, work-related stresses and health related stress. It is not always under our control to be affected by these kinds of stress, but the trick is to learn how to deal with stress when faced with it. First of all, you need to be happy and healthy to be able to handle all sorts of stress. Exercise is always highly recommended by practitioners, as it has the effect of making you happy and also making you healthy. Exercise releases endorphins, which are the hormones that cause you to feel joy and happiness. In addition to the effect of these hormones, you will feel happier because you will see the results on your body from the exercising. There are different types of exercise to suit a whole range of tastes, such as swimming, running, biking, yoga, rowing and many more.

If you have stresses which can induce panic attack, perhaps you need to sit down and assess where you can work out a solution. If you are worrying about money, perhaps now is the time to restructure your budget, or talk to debt consolidators for some help. Therefore every time a new bill arrives you won’t be clutching at your heart in panic. If your worry is relationship related, now is the time to seek some counseling. If you and your spouse are always arguing, there is no doubt that some heated words can cause some unwanted panic symptoms. If you are working too hard and are not coping, now is the time to sit down with your employer and talk about what can be done to make your life a little bit easier. The best way to approach your boss is to explain that you love your job, and believe that you will produce a far better level of work if you are given more time to concentrate on one project at a time.

Remember that stress can be handled. Naturally, not all problems in life can be ignored but there are better ways of dealing with them. There are also some amazing relaxation techniques that go a long way in reducing your stress which in turn alleviates your panic symptoms. These techniques can include yoga, meditation, getting a good night’s rest and just having some good clean fun.

There are many causes of panic attacks and there ar many panic disorder symptoms. However, treating panic attacks can sometimes be very simple. Here is a great article on causes, symtoms and the best ways of treating panic attacks.

It is vital to gain knowledge and apply necessary steps in  because it is one of the most nerve-racking (and sometimes embarrassing) experiences that anyone can ever encounter. This article aims to provide you with remarkable tips for panic attack domination.

Treating panic disorders can be a daunting task for victims of panic attacks – a disorder that is downright agonizing. It is important to know how to stop it and apply the vital steps in treating panic disorders because if ignored, it may totally damage the self-esteem, social life, and entire personality of its victim. This article aims to provide you with powerful tips for panic attack treatment.

When you have frequent panic attacks that last several minutes and it is interfering with your everyday tasks, you cannot ignore the problem and think that it is only in your mind. You must find ways that will help in treating panic disorders immediately.
 symptoms of panic disorders
Causes of Panic Disorders

Serious emotional disturbance and mental health disorders such as depression, extreme shyness, alcohol addiction, and behavioral problems often cause initial panic disorders. As suicide attempts are more common with depressed people, those with panic disorders are also more prone to commit suicide.

Other factors may include severe stress or side effects of some types of medications. In many instances, it is brought merely by your own uncontrolled thoughts.

Panic attacks are often mistaken for heart disease or other similar illnesses. Sometimes people who experience panic attacks are admitted in an emergency room, which is not necessary.

The more you don’t want to panic, the more you can’t control it. The more you
can’t handle it, the stronger it becomes. It’s like the "Don’t Think of a Pink Elephant" syndrome.

Effects of Panic Disorders

Once you experience a panic attack in a sensitive or crucial situation (such as when you’re in a public place or when driving a car), you may incur phobias. As a result, you may avoid situations that cause anxieties and fear in your life, thereby affecting your life negatively.

Some may acquire extreme social phobia that they avoid seeing people at all costs. Sufferers feel extreme grief, fear and anxiety, resulting in other side effects such as sexual dysfunction and insomnia. The effects of panic disorders may be so severe that they may cripple you from functioning normally in your daily activities.

Panic Attack Symptoms

Panic attack symptoms appear unexpectedly, with no obvious signs of its arrival. They may include:

Fear of being unable to control yourself and of doing something humiliating. In worse instances, the victim is afraid of dying at any time.
Difficulty in breathing, heart palpitations, or chest pains.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, trembling, or sweating.
Tingling or numbness in the hands.
Chills around your body.

Panic Attacks Treatment

Here are some effective panic attack treatments:

1)Pep up your self-talk.

Command your brain and subconscious that you are ready and able to face any panic attack or anxiety that may come. Tell panic to "Bring it on!"

Your thoughts should also be coupled by the right emotions. If you say to your mind you’re capable of conquering your fears and anxieties, but deep inside you’re feeling that you can’t control it, your negative emotions will take over. Your thoughts and emotions must work in unison in treating panic disorders.

2)Visualize correctly and use creative imagination.

Many people are now aware of how powerful visualization is. I have proven this when I was able to become a streak basketball shooter without any practice. All I did was vividly imagine the ball swooshing through the net after gracefully releasing it from my hand.

Warning! Wrong visualizations can trigger a counter effect. The way your mind thinks affects your body. If you visualize that you are unable to control your panic attacks, it will manifest itself into reality.

Here’s how you can use your imagination in treating panic disorders:

Imagine your panic disorder as a creature that is ugly, awkward, small, and weak. Give panic a different name that will signify your power over it. For this example, let’s say you named it "Tiny".

You want "Tiny" to be out of your life because you are strong and mighty. Now every time "Tiny" visits, do what you can to kick it out. It doesn’t deserve to be in your presence.

Every time you conjure horrible images in your mind, get rid of them. "Tiny" loves it when you suffer from those terrifying pictures in your head because it feels more in control of you. Are you going to allow that weakling to dominate you? Not a chance! So you have to get "mad" enough to stomp those images out of your mind to defeat that powerless "Tiny". Imagine "Tiny" raising its hands in surrender because it can’t do anything against you.

Once those images disappear, "Tiny" goes with them. Slowly but effectively, you’re  When you show your panic attacks that you’re the boss and set yourself free, celebrate that special moment!
